Maurice Smith has been a businessman for over 30 years. Initially he was managing director of a large photocopying company in the late seventies, and for the last ten years was involved in running a Web design company.

In the Sixties he joined the International Voluntary Service as a volunteer. He enjoyed helping others and working with other volunteers. Throughout his life he has taken a keen interest in Charitable organisations. In late 2007 he considered setting up a Charity of his own. This became reality after the January 2008 riots in Kenya. The disturbances and their consequences prompted Maurice to register the Kenya Aid Foundation in February 2008.
